While the contributions of colonial troops go largely unrecognised, their overwhelming presence is captured in many works by war- time visual artists. To date however, little effort has been made to bring together these images or to put them in an index. 'Unforgotten Soldiers' aimed to identify related visual arts including drawings, photographs and paintings produced by war-time artists and photographers and to reproduce them in the form of framed pictures that were featured in a subsequent public exhibition. The result was an informative and inspiring exhibition that featured more than 40 obscure photographs and a collection of rare footage of colonial troops serving in WWI. The exhibition ran between February 22 and March 2, 2016 at the Gallery and Exhibition Hall in the Brynmor Jones Library at the University of Hull, hosting more than 500 visitors. The delegates of ethnic communities who had attended our workshops attended the exhibition and provided attendees with extra information they had learned from workshop leaders. A full report of the exhibition appeared in the Hull Daily Mail Hull Daily Mail which is the largest selling regional newspaper in Yorkshire.
